Sarah Michelle Gellar was born Sarah Michelle Prinze on April 14 in 1977. Sarah is an American film and television actress. She has become an international celebrity for her role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Sarah played the lead character in the series, Buffy Summers. She won six teen choice awards for her role in the series as well as a Saturn Award for the best genre television actress and a Golden Globe award nomination.

Sarah has also had great success in the film industry in the United States. Films that Sarah has been in include; I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997, Cruel Intentions in 1999, Scooby-Doo in 2002, The Grudge in 2004, The Return in 2006, Southland Tales in 2007 and The Air I Breathe in 2008. 2010 sees Sarah return to the big screen with a starring role in Veronika Decides to Die.

Sarah’s career in film and television began at a young age. She was discovered by an agent while in a restaurant in the area of Uptown Manhattan at the age of four. Two weeks later she won a role in a made for television movie, An Invasion of Privacy. Sarah also appeared in television commercials and modeled for magazines. She appeared in television series including Spenser for Hire and Crossbow. Small roles in movies came along and included Funny Farm in 1988 and High Stakes in 1989.

In 1995 Sarah won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Leading Actress in a Drama Series. In 1997 she won the role of Buffy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She has stated that she was screen tested eleven times for the series and was originally auditioning for the role of Cordelia. It was the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series that was to make Sarah Michelle Gellar a household name in America and an internationally known celebrity.
