Sarah Michelle Gellar was screen tested eleven times before landing the role of Buffy in the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Sarah played the role of a teenager given the task of fighting mystical opponents, which were mostly vampires. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was well received, and in fact has a huge cult like following. Another series was launched using Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel. Angel in fact starred Sarah for three of its episodes. Buffy the Vampire Slayer ran for seven seasons a total of one hundred and forty four episodes. Sarah and Buffy became cult icons in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. The character Buffy was seen to be a powerful woman in control of her life. Sarah has been host of the famous Saturday Night Live variety show three times. She has even appeared on the series Sex and the City in an episode named Escape from New York. Her voice talents have been used on episodes of the Simpsons, King of the Hill and Robot Chicken.

Sarah has had success in the movies as well with starring roles in I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream 2 in 1997. 1999 saw Sarah in the romantic comedy Simply Irresistible. Sarah and co-star Selma Blair won the Best Kiss Award from the MTV Movie Awards in 2000, for their kiss in Cruel Intentions. Her role in Cruel Intentions showed the world just how versatile an actress she is. Her role in Harvard Man included two sex scenes that shed her good girl image for good. Many of Sarah’s movies have been made while continuing to work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In a featured interview for Esquire Magazine Sarah commented that she was proud of her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She even feels that it will go down in history as one of the greatest television shows of all time and believes that it was a series that changed the way people look at television.
