Movies – See her in action: “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” has a trip to race the box office over this Christmas weekend.

The R-rated prequel by director George Miller “Mad Max: Fury Road” has brought in $3.5 million through previews thus to date. Its Warner Bros. action film is anticipated to earn 40 million to $45 million in the span of the 4-day Memorial Day weekend, roughly similar to what “Fury Road” made across three days in 2015.

Fury Road“, which stars Tom Hardy as wasteland warrior Max Rockatansky and introduced Charlize Theron in the role of the tough driver Imperator Furiosa. The film opened to $45.4 million following $3.7 million from Thursday’s previews.

“Furiosa” winds back the time and features Anya Taylor-Joy in A younger version of Theron’s character. The film reveals how she became the fearless sharpshooter who worked against the villainous Immortan Joe as well as the War Boys, later seen in “Fury Road”. Chris Hemsworth plays Dementus, who is the head of the biker-warriors of a group.

Following the film’s Cannes debut, reactions were generally favorable, however, it’s difficult to match the popularity in “Fury Road.” The film’s predecessor made $380 million globally and is regarded as among the greatest action films of the decade and perhaps the greatest of all time. It received 10 Oscar nominations including best director and picture, and received six awards in the categories of costume design, editing makeup and hairstyle designs as well as sound design and editing, and mixing. “Furiosa” cost $168 million for production, not including advertising costs. So you’ll have to pump the gas at the global box office to be successful.

This weekend, there will be a debut of the animated film from Sony and Alcon “The Garfield Movie,” with Chris Pratt as the voice of the tabby in orange. The film is expected to debut on the second spot with an estimated 30 million to 35 million. It also earned $1.925 in its previews. This week’s top box-office hit John Krasinkski’s “IF” starring Ryan Reynolds expects to earn 15 million-$17 million by the following week.
